Phaistos Project: 45 Symbols

Systems of personalities have been expounded since approximately two thousand years ago by the Greek philosopher Theophrastus who wrote the book called The Characters. As humans, we are inclined to understand everything that we experience whether it is physical, emotional, spiritual, or mental. This is also seen with personalities that humanity has been studying for centuries. It is one of the key factors that guide our behavior.

Inspired by the NERIS Analytics personality test, these 45 symbols are represented by the different personality aspects, which use organic mask shapes as a personification of their traits. These aspects consist of specific attributes that form combinations of various types, which are categorized within type groups. The concept of showcasing personalities through masks is to portray humanity’s characteristics outwardly and the masks add a visual connection to those traits. The personality types are grouped into four main categories: Analysts, Diplomats, Sentinels, and Explorers. In each group, there are four individual personalities each with a binary modifier, which signifies the presence of a spectrum within each. These personalities are built from eight different and well recognized traits. The combination of these varied elements forms the mask that we wear.
